Aranui was sentenced 6th April 2006 and eligible for parole 6th April 2006. Because of the long period he spent in prison on remand his parole eligibility date is the same as his sentence commencement date. The Corrections report of 2006 says his security classification is high-medium, he had a bad start in the youth remand unit. The department reports say he needs to address his drug and alcohol addiction, his violence propensity and his association with other criminals.
