April 2006: Christchurch street prostitute and drug addict Suzie Sutherland, 36, was strangled to death and dumped in a vacant inner-city section after having sex with South African immigrant Jule Patrick Burns, 31. Burns said he noticed Sutherland standing in Manchester St wearing a short skirt and negotiated to have sex with her for $80. After having sex, Burns claimed Sutherland reached into her purse and pulled out a syringe. He said he was pricked by the needle.
