Some quotes that demonstrate the appalling hypocrisy of the man here
In early April 2005 Graham Capill pleaded guilty to indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 12. As Christian Heritage Party leader, Graham Capill portrayed himself as moral watchdog to the nation and guardian of family values.
He has also written a letter of complaint about his prison conditions. He is lucky that he has not been placed amongst the general inmate population. They would be less kind than the authorities have been.
The following are quotes from his time as Christian Heritage leader:
"The association of the innocence of an infant with the filthy lifestyle of homosexuals is offensive in the extreme." Protesting pro-homosexual billboards promoting the Hero Parade - 1998.
"Christians have generally shown a great deal of care and support for people in society. It has been Christians who have worked tirelessly in the Salvation Army. It has been Christians who have operated food banks and clothing outlets. They have also been at the forefront in supporting pregnant women." - 1998.
"A sad reflection on the warped moral values that children are now confronted with". Criticises award-winning book Dare, Truth Or Promise, by Dunedin writer Paula Boock, which explored lesbian love. - 1998.
"There has always been nudity in art, but this is deliberately sexually provocative." Brands as obscene the erect penis on a 2.5m Maori statue in Tokoroa. - 1998.
"Foundational to any strong society is a church that gives clear, straightforward thinking. When the church fails to do so, not only does it fail to show men and women the need for salvation, it also compromises society's moral conscience." Bemoans the Presbyterian Church's failure to make up its mind over the ordination of practising homosexuals. - 1998.
"It seems that we have a culture of death which would prefer to attack the weak and vulnerable rather than find a loving home for a child that cannot stay with its mother for whatever reason." Labels New Zealand abortion statistics as "nothing short of a national disgrace". - 1998.
"We live in a society that has become more and more violent, a society where rape and abuse of women is all too common." Renews his attacks on the Tokoroa statue. - 1998.
"Other parties may pay lip service to family values - we have a manifesto built on them." Launches the Christian Heritage manifesto. - 1998.
"I am concerned for young people. They may be driven along by the heavy beat, but fail to discern the destructive message of hate, violence and death." Calls on the Government to keep hard rock band Marilyn Manson out of New Zealand. – 1998.
"Too often suspects are treated as guilty until they can prove their innocence. Sometimes too much weight is given to evidence from children which is uncorroborated or circumstantial." Says the law of evidence dealing with sexual offences should be overhauled. - 1998
"Anyone who uses children as a pawn in a game is playing for high stakes and needs to be careful . It cheapens parenting and reduces it to a cheap commercial gimmick." Hits out at a radio competition aimed at participants conceiving the first millennium baby. - 1999.
"For many, sodomy is a depraved, filthy practice which spreads disease and ruins lives." Calls on the public to boycott commercial sponsors of the Hero Parade. - 1999.
"It is actually on our statute books under the Crimes Act that such language is inappropriate. What it does is lower the general tone of what is acceptable in broadcasting." Attacks the Toyota "bugger" commercial. - 1999.
"It is distressing in the extreme to find the gallery advertises this objectionable material as part of a Family Fun Day, which 'celebrates Keith Haring's love of children, child-like spirit and extensive work with school and youth groups'." Objects to a pop art exhibition by legendary New York pop artist Keith Haring, which features cartoon-like graphic homo-erotic images. - 1999
"Paternity should be taken seriously. It should be revealed sensitively and in an atmosphere of caring and compassion. To use this moment in the context of show business is unseemly." Hits out at television show You be the Judge, which showed a six-year-old boy finding out whether the man he believed was his father actually was. - 1999.
"Children need a mother and father. To deliberately bring children into existence to satisfy the vacuum created following the loss of loved ones is irresponsible and deprives children of one of their greatest needs." On the decision to allow two New Zealand women to become pregnant using their dead husbands' sperm. - 1999.
"The appallingly high rate of child abuse in this country does not need any reinforcement from American film makers." On the film Lolita. - 1999.
"Unfortunately this is a case of art imitating life, as studies show that stepfathers are four times more likely to abuse their daughters than biological fathers." On Lolita again. - 1999
"I don't see anything funny in seeing pictures of Saddam Hussein in bed with Satan having it off. If this is Bill Hastings' image of New Zealand the way he wants it, he can get himself another job." Demands the chief censor resign over designating South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut R16. - 1999.
"There appears to be a race between Jenny Shipley and Helen Clark over who will be the first to destroy the traditional family unit." Expresses dismay at the lack of moral leadership coming from Parliament. - 1999
"The perversity of their own lifestyles is unlikely to be restricted to the couples concerned and puts the children at increased risk of abuse." Rails against same-sex couples. - 2000.
"It is inexcusable to screen paedophilic homosexual acts on national free-to-air television. Depictions of such illegal acts may well result in greater child and young person abuse." Condemns as immoral British soap opera Queer As Folk. - 2000.
"I just think showing erect penises right in your face is really not art. I can't see any particular message, other than somebody who's driven by sexual animal instincts." Objects to an erotic art exhibition. - 2001.
"This is the last kind of programme we as a society need when we have 184 divorces a week and unfaithfulness in relationships has reached epidemic proportions." Hits out at television reality show Temptation Island. - 2001.
