Given two years probation for indecent assault on a male in 1952. Fined $20 and given two years probation for two charges of indecent assault on a male in 1960. Jailed for 18 months for of indecent assault on a boy in 1974. Jailed a second time for 18 months for inducing and permitting a boy under 12 to do indecent acts and doing such acts upon the boy in 1987.

Background
For the Court of Appeal, Justice Somers said health assessor reports concluded Griffith "seems unable to control himself" and that he "must remain a danger for reoffending". The judge said when sentencing Griffith in the High Court in Christchurch had to be locked up indefinitely because of the high risk for his reoffending.
