Sentenced to two years in October 2009
Background
Taranaki Daily News, 17th October 2009
Waitara beneficiary Daniel Iorangi, 50, was jailed for two years for attacking his brother's partner. Iorangi had defended a charge of injuring with intent in March but was found guilty by the residing judge. He had claimed it was self defence. The court heard Iorangi punched and repeatedly kicked the woman in the head after they had been out socialising. Judge Roberts told Iorangi his logic in claiming it was self defence was "perverted" and his violence had been fuelled by alcohol. "With you today, as always, it's someones else's fault," he said.
