Background
From Dominion Post story 7th November 2005
A Teenager bashed by a jealous neighbour suffered the humiliation of having to scrub her own blood off the walls of her flat, a judge has said. Carla Mary Lambert, 31, pulled faces as Justice Ron Young sentenced her in the High Court at Wellington to four years' jail. She had pleaded guilty to having wounded a 17-year-old neighbour with intent to injure her on March 6, threatening to kill the young woman, breaking into her flat, and assaulting two police officers during her arrest.
Justice Young said Lambert, a beneficiary of Upper Hutt, had wrongly thought the victim was having an affair with Lambert's boyfriend. After fighting with her boyfriend, and allegedly attacking him, she broke into the victim's flat, dragged her from her bed, and punched her with both fists. Holding her down by her hair, she hit her repeatedly on the head and neck with a glass candlestick holder till it broke. When the victim yelled that Lambert was going to kill her, Lambert replied, "Yeah, I'm going to ..... kill you". The attack ended when Lambert's boyfriend arrived and dragged her off.
The victim was left cut and scared. "She had numerous cuts and scratches, and afterwards she had the humiliation of .....having to scrub her own blood off the walls." Justice Young said Lambert had a remarkable list of convictions, including 26 for being violent or disorderly. Her assurances that she would not do it again had a hollow ring. "Your assurances and words count for little."
