From the Daily News
Close to $30,000 of the stolen money is still missing after police found $31,260 stashed in plastic bags in the Auckland home of his sister during a search in January. Another $5500 went on a second- hand car, another $5000 to his ex-partner to help her pay bills, while Maru dubbed the Christmas Bandit paid an associate $500 to drive him home to Auckland less than an hour after he had donned a balaclava and wielded a pistol at several bank tellers, telling them to "hand over your money, 20s and 100s, in the bag now". However, the missing money will have to be paid back, eventually, after the judge imposed a full reparation order for Maru when he is released.
