A MAN whose only previous conviction was for drink-driving has been jailed for six years for two aggravated robberies and injuring a shopkeeper.

Tupe Taco Masina, 22, of Otara, was sentenced in the High Court at Wellington. He had been found guilty of robbing a Blockhouse Bay dairy and a Titahi Bay foodmarket of about $6500 in goods and cash in April last year. Masina and a co-offender attacked the Titahi Bay store owner. For that Masina was found guilty of injuring with intent to injure. Justice Hammond said Masina, whose only previous conviction was for driving with excess breath-alcohol as a youth, had acted under the influence of his co-offenders, who had much longer criminal records. They pleaded guilty to four aggravated robberies and were serving six and eight years' jail respectively.
