Sunday Star Times story July 1st 2007
An elderly Rotorua woman fought off a would be rapist by struggling and telling him she had just had a hip replacement. The woman, in her late 70's, was in Rotorua District Court on Friday to hear the sentence imposed on her attacker - 26 year old Dylan Manuhairi McKain. Judge Phillip Cooper jailed the Rotorua man for six years six months after he admitted trying to rape the Rotorua grandmother. Judge Cooper told McKain his attack on the elderly woman in her home was an offence "of the very worst type". "This was an invasion of her home and her personal dignity which really can't be put into words."
