ONE of two young males charged with the aggravated robbery of a Normanby service station last Thursday admitted his part in the offence when he appeared in the New Plymouth District Court yesterday. Unemployed Hawera man Bevan Pakau (20) admitted robbing Robin Campbell of $1112 worth of cigarettes and cash at Normanby, the burglary of Eltham's Taranaki Farmers store and unlawfully taking a Corolla from Hawera - all on January 10. Judge Christopher Harding remanded Pakau in custody to January 31 for a probation report and sentence.

Police prosecutor Detective Sergeant Dave MacKenzie said Pakau and a 15-year-old boy, who appeared in the city youth court last Friday, stole the Toyota vehicle from Disraeli St, Hawera, in the early hours of Thursday. They then drove to Eltham where they rammed the car through the doors of the Taranaki Farmers building and stole about $5000 of chemicals and herbicides. They drove back to Hawera and unloaded the stolen property at a rural address, before driving to Normanby about 6.45am. There they disguised themselves with hoods over their heads and, wearing towelling around their faces, confronted sole Beccard Motors staff member Mr Campbell with a tomahawk, before stealing the cigarettes and cash. They then drove through some metal gates at King Edward Park in Hawera and abandoned the vehicle.
