Background
From the Bay of Plenty Times November 13th 2009
A Tauranga man who was set to defend a rape charge changed his plea when he was
re-arraigned for trial yesterday.
Zachariah Monty Pini, 24, pleaded guilty in Tauranga District Court at a callover hearing to one count each of breaching a protection order and sexual violation by rape. He was further remanded in custody pending sentencing on January 20.
The court was told that between November 13 and 14 last year Pini breached a protection order when he entered his victim's Merivale home and stayed overnight without her consent. The next morning Pini also made the woman - who was known to him - have sexual intercourse with him. She felt powerless to resist, the court was told. Pini finally left her address several hours later.
