Background
From the Otago Daily Times February 2006
A man who punched his partner in the mouth and left eye during an argument over difficulties in their relationship appeared to have alcohol issues, counsel for Jaswant Prasad (26), timber worker, told the court. A sentence of supervision might be appropriate so Prasad could deal with those issues, Rhona Daysh said. Given it was Prasad’s third conviction in six years for assaulting a female and because there seemed to be anger management and alcohol issues, Judge MacLean remanded him on bail until March 7 for a pre-sentence report. Prasad admitted assaulting his former long-term partner, Velisa Tau at their home on February 4.
