In the Manukau District Court, Judge Anna Johns set a starting point of nine years but reduced it by a year due to this being Rapata's first and only offence of a sexual nature. She said the victim impact statement made an unpleasant reading and that the victim has since suffered depression, anorexia and has nightmares and suicidal thoughts.
