Background
Rotana had been returned to the community after a lengthy psychiatric history that dated from 1983 and had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. (Herald, 6 April, 1995, See also, letter of 28 March, 1997, to the Dominion, (unpublished ?), by John Bent, quoting Judgement of Court of Appeal, delivered on April 5, 1995 by Mr Justice Casey). Rotana had been returned no less than 6 times to his wife as "cured", and each time she insisted he go back for further treatment. On the 7th release, he axed her to death as she slept .
