The victim was tied, gagged, sexually violated and choked to the point of suffering facial haemorrhages. Smallbon, who repeatedly tried to hide his face as he stood in the dock, pleaded guilty to charges of abducting a male for sex, assault with a weapon and threatening to kill, and two counts of sexual violation of a male.

Smallbon demanded money, made him lie on a bed and tied his hands, then gagged him with a sock. Smallbon then committed sex acts on the victim and forced the victim to perform acts on him. The victim was asked for money, and Smallbon placed his arm around his neck and choked him, saying he was not to tell anyone. The victim's hands were again tied, and he was threatened with a knife. When questioned by police, Smallbon admitted the matters, saying he had taken benzylpiperazine pills
