Background
From NZ Herald story 14th May 1988
One man was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and another was convicted of manslaughter after two trials ended in the High Court at Auckland yesterday.
In a separate trial, Patrick Chad Tahana, aged 19, of Mangere, had faced a charge of murdering his stepfather last October on the 15th. A jury cleared him of the charge and found him guilty of manslaughter. The court heard that Tahana stabbed his stepfather with a 20cm boning knife after an argument in kitchen of a Mangere house. The victim, 52 year old Malcolm William Wade, was found dead in his van the next day. Defence counsel Charles Cato submitted Tahana had no intent to kill.
