A man who abducted a teenager and forced her to perform oral sex at gunpoint has been jailed for seven years. Parata Aarron Tamihere, 21, of New Plymouth, was found guilty last month of abduction, sexual violation and using a firearm in the commission of the crime.
In the New Plymouth District Court today Judge Allan Roberts said the evidence was overwhelming. Tamihere had stalked his victim at New Plymouth's Fitzroy Motor Camp on New Year's Eve before luring her on to the golf course.
He pulled a handgun on the girl before he forced her to give him oral sex. The DNA evidence was enough to convict him, let alone other evidence police had discovered, the judge said. In handing down sentence, Judge Roberts said he was also left in no doubt that Tamihere was a manipulative liar that gave perjured evidence in his own defence. Despite that, he did not impose a minimum non-parole period because of Tamihere's age and lack of previous offending.
