A 29-year-old Tokoroa man who had pleaded not guilty to sexually violating and murdering his wife has changed his plea to guilty on the violation charge.Hamuera Te Hiko's change in plea came after the Crown presented evidence before Justice David Morris in a High Court trial at Rotorua.Te Hiko has denied murdering his 45-year-old wife, Eliza May Te Hiko, at his brother's Putaruru house last December.The jury was told that Te Hiko beat his wife about the head, bit her on various parts of her body and also sexually violated her. Both the prosecution and defence have given their closing addresses and Justice Morris will sum up the case on Monday.

Whetu Te Hiko followed in his brother's footsteps - and became a killer. The 23-year-old set out to steal a car and ended up taking the life of 66-year-old Tokoroa primary school teacher Lois Dear. In 2001, Te Hiko's older brother Hamuera Te Hiko, then 29, was jailed for 14 years for the manslaughter of his wife Eliza, after he sexually violated, hit and bit her at Putaruru in December 2000.
