Two brothers convicted of manslaughter for their involvement in the axe murder of a fellow Vietnamese refugee have each been sentenced to six years in prison. Xe Van Vo, 32, and Hoang Van Vo, 24, were last month found guilty of manslaughter in relation to the death of Thong Van Dong, 26, after a brawl outside a South Auckland nightclub in February last year.

Their 21-year-old brother, Thanh Ngoc Vo, who admitted killing Mr Dong but argued it was self-defence, was found guilty of murder and has already been sentenced to life imprisonment. Six members of the Vo family were originally charged with the murder. At a trial which ended in March, the brothers' mother, Cam Thi Nguyen Vo, was acquitted, while the jury was unable to agree on the others. Only three brothers stood trial again, after charges against their father, Them Van Vo, and uncle, Van Hen Nguyen, were dismissed.
