Background
From the Daily News May 7, 1999
A MAN of no fixed abode was jailed for a total of nine months when he appeared in the New Plymouth District Court yesterday on a variety of charges. Sean Francis Whittaker (22) admitted several offences in Taranaki in the past few months, including possession of a weapon (knife), assault on police, resisting arrest, wilful damage, and careless driving. Judge Christopher Harding jailed him for three months. The judge also resentenced him to another six months jail for a variety of offences committed in Blenheim, Palmerston North and Wellington during 1998 and this year. Judge Harding said that unless Whittaker addressed his significant drug and alcohol problem, he would spend a lot of time in jail.
