Another cover-up, another white-wash by officials. That is the only decision viewers could come to following the “Sunday” documentary on T V ONE about the murder of Karl Kuchenbecker.
The Kuchenbecker family wants answers and they deserve them, but the pathetic silence by officials and bureaucrats is nothing short of cowardice says the Sensible Sentencing Trust.
"Leadership and courage are obviously virtues that are sadly lacking by those in charge of Corrections and Parole in this country," said spokesman Garth McVicar.
"It is patently obvious that next weeks wages are far more important to these officials than trying to stop the deaths of innocent New Zealanders."
"Saying sorry doesn’t cut it – this family and many others are victims of a system that is leaking worse than the Titanic, sadly it will probably take as many deaths before any of those responsible will find a spine and courage enough to admit the ship is sinking."
"The Burtons of this world have a choice and he made it, he has now murdered twice and committed numerous other offences yet this crazy parole system means he will be eligible for parole yet again."
"Not only do the Kuchenbeckers lose a son – they will be forced to suffer further agony when they fight the Parole Board to keep this low-life career criminal where he belongs."
"The Burtons of this world deserve to spend the rest of their natural lives behind bars – but no doubt more innocent Kiwis will die horrendous deaths before any official will find the courage to speak up."
Their silence is deafening – but it is also killing innocent New Zealanders

Garth McVicar
