(27th August 2009)
A Victims advocacy organization has applauded Government initiatives aimed at reducing youth offending and getting young people off the streets and into the work force.
Garth McVicar, Spokesman for the Sensible Sentencing Trust said that it was not 'rocket science' to work out that a lot of the violent crime being committed by youth was the result of idle hands.
"The bleeding heart liberals that have promoted the removal of consequences and boundaries for youth have caused a mammoth problem – we reap what we sow."
"We have more young people committing violent offences than ever before and the degree of violence has got worse, with children as young as 12 committing murder."
"More young people are carrying weapons and prepared to use them, while the schemes will not rectify all the problems they are definitely a step in the right direction."
"The Sensible Sentencing Trust congratulates the National/Act Government for having the courage to face this issue head on."
Regards,
Garth McVicar
