Sensible Sentencing Trust
(22nd June 2010)
A Criminal Justice Watchdog group is supporting a call from Police for more people to face the harshest penalties for leading police on high speed chases.
The Sensible Sentencing Trust says the increase in the numbers of high speed chases and deaths is the outcome of years of policies that have removed the consequences for flouting the law.
Trust Spokesman Garth McVicar said it is all very well for the liberals to wring their hands when someone gets hurt or killed in a police pursuit "but in reality the liberals have only themselves to blame."
"When Police are impeded and abused for enforcing the law and protecting the public from law breakers the outcome was always predictable."
"It is an everyday occurrence now for the police to be abused, spat at and sworn at, the next step for those so inclined is to try and avoid being ticketed or arrested by the Police."
Mr McVicar said the recent success of the "zero-tolerance to speeding" campaign proved beyond doubt that a tough approach worked and said that Sensible Sentencing Trust was calling on the Courts to impose the toughest penalties possible for anyone leading the police on high speed chases.

Garth McVicar
