Megan is specializing in the area of drink driving offences
Megan McPherson has joined SST because she would like to see common sense law changes that benefit every-day kiwis. She believes SST represents the largely unheard voice of the silent majority of Kiwis who are tired of light treatment of criminals, and unnecessarily poor regard for victims.
Having lost her 28 year old brother who had everything to live for (Jonathan Keogh) to a 66 year old drunk driver (David Cashman), who had several previous drunk driving convictions spread over 36 years, she understands how weak New Zealand's current laws are.
She is based in Dunedin and has a particular interest in drunk and drugged driving laws. Her aim is two-fold. She is working to help deliver much tougher laws for those who destroy lives on our roads. Secondly she would like to help those who have suffered from the actions of the hundreds of drivers who continually endanger innocent people.
Along with SST Megan, would like to see drunk driving treated as a more serious crime, with heavier and fair penalties. She would like recidivist drunk drivers taken off New Zealand's roads for life, and the test for manslaughter with a motor vehicle lowered.
Megan has recently written this excellent and well researched article for us.
