Hello my name is Michelle and I am 18 years old. I was sexually abused by my brother in 1999 when I was 7 years of age and then again when I was 8 years of age. My brother had not only abused me but a number of other people.
I told my mum that he had abused me and she told my dad what had happened when he had gotten back from fishing. My dad did not believe that my brother had abused me, so my mum went to the Police by herself to let them know what had happened.
A few weeks later I had to go and see Child Youth and Family to tell them what happened. My brother then went to court and pleaded guilty; he got sentenced to 12 years imprisonment. It then got shortened to 9 years imprisonment and 2 years on parole. I really wanted to see him but because I am a victim I was not able to see him.
I had no contact with him until the last 6 months that he was on parole. I had made plans to see him but it did not work out the way we wanted it to. Then my dad had asked both my brother and I to go to his place for Christmas, he did not let either of us know until 3 days before Christmas. I was so stressing out about meeting him but it really was not the way I expected.
My brother and I just sat there and talked for about 3hours about what we had been up to in the 11 years that we had not had contact. It was so hard not having a brother that I knew I had, it seemed like we were apart for a life time.
