Sentenced to nine and a half years in December 1987
Background
NZ Herald story December 1987 condensed here
A 32-year old man was yesterday sentenced to nine and a half years imprisonment for raping a German tourist in Kerikeri in September. Gary Earl Allen, a solo parent, of Kerikeri, pleaded not guilty to the charge, claming through out the trial that the tourist had consented to intercourse.
The complainant said she was walking along a track when she came upon Allen, who was armed with a pistol, the judge said. She tried to run away but Allen overtook her, threatened her with a pistol and fired a shot to frighten her. Allen took her off the track at gunpoint, tied her hands behind her back with a headband and raped her, the judge said. Allan was also sentenced to two years imprisonment for aggravated robbery, and one year for threatening to kill. All three sentences were to be served concurrently
