Sentenced to fifteen months in April 2011
Background
From the Northern Advocate 27th April 2011
A 39-year-old Kaipara man who pleaded guilty to three charges of indecently assaulting two young girls has been sent to prison for 15 months. Wayne Stanley Campbell was also sentenced to three months' jail on two charges of assaulting two children. The sentences are to be served concurrently with six month post release conditions also imposed. While Campbell had no previous sexual offending history Judge Simon Maude was concerned his behaviour indicated a pattern of offending as it had taken place on several occasion and with more than one child.
A probation report stated Campbell did not dispute his action and said he knew they were wrong. The report recommended a long-term prison sentence to allow enough time for Campbell to get the appropriate assistance. Defence counsel Darrell Hart said Campbell accepted responsibility for the wrongdoing and put the behaviour down to intoxication. Campbell also handed up to the judge letters of apology to the victims.
