Was initially convicted of the abduction, rape and repeated sexual violation of a Wairarapa woman in late 2005 - but was later acquitted after the complainant was unwilling to repeat her evidence in a retrial. Had also been charged with the murder of Hawke's Bay cannabis dealer Philip Cowan in 2001 - but the charge against him and two other men was dismissed after two of the Crown's witnesses had been discredited.
