A 21-year-old Waimate man was committed for trial yesterday on charges of sexual violation of a 14-year-old girl. Talitonu Faauuga Faapuea, 21, of Waimate appeared for a depositions hearing on three charges of sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection and one charge of sexual violation by rape. For Faapuea, Ms Saunderson- Warner conceded there was a prima facie case to answer, and he was remanded on bail until April 9 for a trial in the High Court.

Police evidence said that the charges arose out of an incident in Waimate, in which the complainant alleged Faapuea had touched her genital area, performed oral sex on her and had intercourse with her. In a statement to police, Faapuea admitted touching and kissing the complainant, but denied having intercourse. He said the complainant had texted him and asked him to meet her.
