Background
Christchurch Court News story here
From NZ Herald story 17th February 2011
Neil Stephen Frayle, 66, took his computer in for repairs in June, but the technician working on it noticed the documents and informed the police. The court was told 1771 images were found on the computer, including bestiality, rape, and underage sex. Frayle told the police that at the time he didn't think they were objectionable, but he now thought they were. Judge Christopher Somerville asked for a pre-sentence report including a report to determine if Frayle was suitable for home detention. He has been remanded on bail for sentencing on April 19 and police have asked for an order for destruction of the material.
From Christchurch Press story 13th July 2011
A former teacher who accessed "disgusting material" on the internet has been sentenced to eight months home detention and 150 hours of
community work. Neil Stephen Frayle, 67, had pleaded guilty to 15 charges of possessing objectionable images on his computer. The images were found by a technician repairing the computer, and he informed the police. There were 1771 images, including bestiality, rape and underage sex.
Defence counsel Simon Clay said in the Christchurch District Court that Frayle had been a teacher for 30 to 40 years and had a good reference from the headmaster of the school. He had put himself in a treatment programme and had suffered significant consequences, Clay said. Judge David Saunders said the material was disgusting. He sentenced Frayle to home detention with conditions to undertake and complete treatment and counselling for six months beyond his sentence date. He was not to associate with or contact anyone aged under 16, or possess a computer without his probation officer's approval.
