News report from 5th Jun 2008
The Department of Internal Affairs says a two year prison sentence for a man convicted of possessing child pornography should send a warning to others.
Warren Bradley David Harding, 68, was jailed after being denied home detention at the Hamilton District Court. Inspectors seized nearly 23,000 computer files at Harding's home; they contained adult pornography and sexually explicit pictures of girls as young as seven.
The Department's deputy secretary Keith Manch says the sentence sends a strong message that courts are taking such offences seriously. He says people who possess child pornography contribute to the abuse of children.
