A 28-year-old Hamilton man who marketed pirated DVD movies over the internet has admitted possessing child pornography.
Jian (Max) He pleaded guilty to 32 charges when he appeared briefly in the Hamilton District Court on Thursday.
The charges included 27 counts of knowingly possessing objectionable material.
Community Magistrate Pat Ferguson convicted He and remanded him on bail until sentencing in March. A pre-sentence report was ordered. On June 27 this year, police raided He's Hamilton home following a complaint to the New Zealand Federation Against Copyright Theft (NZFACT). NZFACT is part of the Motion Picture Association and works to protect the film industry from copyright theft. It is alleged He marketed pirated DVD movies on the internet.
Computer hard drives, associated equipment and DVDs belonging to He were seized during the police raid. An examination of the hard drives allegedly found objectionable material, including child pornography movies.
