The victim and her brother came to live with Hookway and his wife when she was five. At first Hookway and his wife were foster parents to the children. Hookway began to sexually abuse the victim. In January 2005 she ran away from Hookway and his wife's home and five months later the victim reported to the police that Hookway had sexually abused her while living under his care.
