In early 1996 Dion Matthews and another man abducted a 15 year old girl at knife point as the girl left the Auckland Easter Show. Repeatedly raped and degraded her, leaving her tied to a tree in Otahuhu. Matthews who has an extensive criminal record was on parole at the time of the attack for armed robbery.
