Background
NZ Herald story here
From Dominion Post story July 2006
A Hawke's Bay music teacher has admitted indecently assaulting 12 girls. Richard Roberts, 56, of Flaxmere, pleaded guilty in Hastings District Court yesterday to charges of indecently assaulting the girls, all aged under 13, over 2½ years from 2004. Some of the offending took place in schools. The principal of one school where Roberts had molested pupils said outside the court that the assaults came to light after a girl complained she did not feel comfortable being with the teacher. Relevant authorities were then notified. The principal said Roberts had been vetted by police before he started working at the school. Roberts has been remanded on bail. He will be sentenced on August 22.
It appears the offender could not handle it on the outside and went to the police station and asked to be put in jail!
