Background
The Court of Appeal heard Singh had been with his partner for approximately 12 years. The pair separated in March 1995 when a non-molestation order was taken out against Singh. Three months later Singh returned to the victim's Papakura home, instructed her and their children to travel with him to Rotorua. After several weeks while they were living together, Singh repeatedly raped, savagely beat and burnt his former partner.
