Background
From the Dominion 29th July 1997
An unemployed Hastings man appeared in Napier District Court yesterday in connection with a sexual attack on an elderly woman in Napier on Friday morning. Douglas Arnold Turetahi, 28, entered no plea to charges of burglary, intent to injure and attempted rape. He was remanded in custody for a psychiatric report and is due to reappear on August 13. Detective Senior Sergeant Bill Gregory said a man broke into the woman's Onekawa retirement village flat at 7.15am on Friday and
assaulted her while she was in the shower. Mr Gregory said the woman had handled a terrifying situation extremely well and was showing a remarkably resilient attitude. "I'm sure she will overcome this." The woman was expected to be discharged from hospital yesterday.
