Background
From Waikato Times story 8th June 2007
A Morrinsville man already in jail for indecent assault has now been convicted of raping a mentally impaired woman on the same day. Ned Wilson, 33, was sentenced to seven years' jail at the High Court in Hamilton yesterday for raping a woman with the mental age of about five, just hours after he been caught in another woman's bedroom. He was on parole at the time, after being released from a two-year jail term for burglary. Wilson is already serving a three-year sentence for the first attack. He pleaded guilty to the rape charge just before his jury trial was set to begin in April.
In sentencing yesterday Justice Williams described how on the day of the offences Wilson had wandered around Morrinsville trying doors of houses to find one that was open. The first woman was asleep in her bed, but woke up to find Wilson in her room. Later that day the court was told Wilson came across mentally impaired woman. He said she followed him to a school and "we just did it". He claimed the sexual intercourse was consensual.
